Work continues a pace on the new 100,000 sq ft Etrop Court development. Construction work has continued on the two 4-storey buildings which will be home to Manchester City Council's Children and Adult Services department and the Wythenshawe Regeneration team.
The other buildings which provide a new frontage to Poundswick Lane will be anchored by two major retail stores, one of which, Wilkinsons is due to open late Summer 2011. The scheme is part of St Modwen's ongoing £100m regeneration of the town centre.
The two anchor retailers are taking a combined space of 35,000 sq ft. In addition to the jobs generated at the development's seven retail units, the new Etrop Court could well bring over 700 new jobs into the town centre when it is completed during 2011.
Future development phases in the town centre include a new bus station at Forum Square which will create a transport interchange with the Metrolink airport extension. The Metrolink line and bus station will link the main employment centres in Wythenshawe and the current bus station site is earmarked for future redevelopment.

Since the approval of the Wythenshawe Town Centre
masterplan in 2006, Manchester City Council has been
working with St Modwen and other partners on a
number of key developments for the Town Centre. Since
2007, the following developments have taken place:
The decision to extend Metrolink to the airport via Wythenshawe has created the opportunity for a Transport Interchange in the Town Centre. To enable this, the location of the bus station will need to change from Rolandsway to Forum Square. A revised masterplan has been prepared to include the new bus station location and the other planned developments. This new plan was approved by Manchester City Council in October 2009.

Etrop Court – A new retail and office development
at the northern end of the Birtles mall, including
Netto and Wilkinsons and a new District Office for
Manchester City Council. Up to 500 staff will be based
here, including the following services: Children’s
Services, Adult Social Care and Wythenshawe
Regeneration Team.
New office headquarters for Willow Park Housing
Trust on the site of the former Cedars Poundswick
Lane. This will replace the former offices at Brownley
Road and house approximately 140 staff.
These new developments will improve access to
services for local residents and create additional footfall
for the Town Centre. The two developments that have
taken place and the planned new developments will
make Wythenshawe Town Centre a more attractive
place to visit and put the Town Centre in a good
position to further develop as the economy improves.
