WE ARE CAMPAIGNERS

We are campaigners

Year 4 pupils of The Willows Primary School undertook a project called "We are Campaigners", where they designed artwork to be displayed in shop windows here at Wythenshawe Town Centre.

As a Rights Respecting School, the staff are keen for pupils to understand and exercise their Rights as responsible citizens, so they began the project by introducing the concept of campaigning to make a change in their local area.

Pupils very quickly shared their frustrations and disappointment at the state of the path which runs along the side of The Willows. Being seen daily from the playground and when walking along it to the swimming baths, the pupils decided they wanted to bring a positive change.

They did lots of cross-curricular work which involved the use of Maths to create graphs of the amount of litter they'd collected, using English to write a letter of concern to the local MP regarding the matter, using Design Technology/Computing to take thought-provoking images of the litter they'd found, and also completing work in Geography around the impact of pollution on society and wildlife.

This was all brought together in the project “We are Campaigners”. They used all of the work above to create Eco-related logos, campaign posters and speeches which was then shared with a small audience at The Lifestyle Centre. Come and take a look when you next visit the centre!
